Consumer demand for nutraceutical products is strong and growing at about 6% in the United States. Category growth in this range is projected to continue for at least the next five years. While this slower growth is well below the 10.1% CAGR that the category experienced during the 1990’s, it is still roughly triple inflation, in excess of almost every other “food” category and evidence of continued strong consumer demand for nutraceutical products.
Growing use of nutraceuticals. Dietary supplement usage is on the rise in the United States. According to the Dietary Supplement Information Bureau, 59% of Americans took supplements regularly in 2001, versus 54% in 2000. Functional food use is also on the rise, growing at 9% in 2001. |
