The surviving product concepts proceed to the product development phase. Brand design and packaging are developed that communicate the products positioning and benefits in a consumer-obvious, “shelf-evident” format. Product formulations are developed and physical product prototypes are manufactured. Several versions of these prototypes are then tested on target consumers of the product to confirm concept appeal and purchase intent at selected price points. Where needed, small-scale trials are conducted at this phase to establish or confirm label claims.
